Proclamation Signing Event

The State of Idaho and the local jurisdictions of Treasure Valley have issued proclamations declaring April 2018 as Veteran Suicide Awareness Month. A proclamation signing ceremony will held on April 5th starting at 5:30 pm at High Desert Harley, 2310 E. Cinema Drive, Meridian, Idaho.

Nationwide, on average, 20+ veterans and 1 active service member take their own life each day. This has turned into a national epidemic.

Idaho ranks seventh in the nation for the rate of suicide. It is the 2nd leading cause of death in our State. Roughly 10% of the population of Idaho are veterans making veteran suicide awareness an important issue for all Idahoans.

In the nation, roughly 22% of all suicides are veterans. 44,965 people die by suicide each year. Veteran’s account for 6.4% of the population of the United States

Idaho is the first State to recognize a Veteran Suicide Awareness Month. This is one of the many steps to help fight the war at home.

The State of Idaho and the jurisdictions of the Treasure Valley are holding a Proclamation event at High Desert Harley in Meridian starting at 5:30.
